I used Castro Urdiales as a stop-over from my house in Alicante to the ferry in Bilbao. Mea Culpa. After a long days drive I was not appreciative of how unfriendly to visitors wrt parking CU was. Every single street and car parking zone was "Azul/Blue" which meant residents only except 1000-1400 and 1600-2000. No overnight parking was possible except for an underground car park which was exhorbitant [typical tourist trap car park] or a really dodgy area with derelict buildings and no street lighting.
Unfortunately, as I was in transit I didn't get a chance to walk around the port, which on paper at least looks interesting.
Unfortunately I left with no good impression of CU
I will admit that I am biased. I don't like cities. CU is a very busy place. I will not go again. Having spoken to others I have been directed to better places, with views, less noisy.

This is a small resort town with nice beaches, harbour, good views. Great restaurants and bars. The promenade is lovely. The place was a lovely surprise. I hadn't expected it to be so nice. I was just passing through walking the Camino but it is a place I would have happily spent a week in.

Very Spanish seaside town, clean, nice promenade and beaches with an impressive castle and church overlooking sea to visit. Marina and fishing port working and interesting. We watched the 7 man and women rowing teams racing in the bay on Sunday morning. Lively couple of streets in the Old Town during Sunday siesta time.
A very nice seaside town overall.

I stayed here as a central base to visit other places.
I stayed here as a central base to visit other places. There are a range of Bars offering Tapas within a 10/15 minute walk - the Receptionist provided a map and a short cut! If you want more formal dining, you need to go to the centre of town but that is a 25 minute walk or use your car. The parking has a coded electronic card the same as your room so using the car late is not an issue.

I love especially the post-season feel of this town.
I love especially the post-season feel of this town. Although travel during the season allows for enjoyment of the tent restaurant on the pier. Still, there are other, year-round, seafood restaurants within the old town, and some are really amazing. Walk around the old town, have pintxos/tapas, walk around the harbor, up to the church and the castle. Then onto the pier shooting out into the sea. On the other side of the harbor there is a wonderful playground for the little ones. And around you will find some beautiful beaches, some very small, and at least two long ones. The town is easily reachable by a bus from Bilbao. There is a lot of gorgeous hiking trails around. Pay attention to the rock formations by the sea. I also recommend you eat breakfast at the El Molino Cafe and Bakery (also good for families with children).

The hotel is well positioned if you want to be in the centre of things. It is a bit quirky but interesting. Access by car needs to be arranged in advance as the parking is about 200m away and stopping outside the hotel can be difficult. You can pay for the parking in the hotel at a reduced price. The rooms are small, as are the shower rooms but they are clean, comfortable and very good value for overnight stays. The breakfast was good, as was the service. There is no lift so you have to be prepared to carry your luggage upstairs.
Castro Urdiales is a quintessential town with great character and food. As a Camino de Santiago pilgrim walking through, I briefly stopped in the middle of town to discern if I should eat & drink before going to rest. As I stood a man warmly smiled. We engaged in conversation and he introduced me to the owner of this property! There was joy and disbelief on the anointed meeting…. follow by an escort to the lodging and an invitation to a location for dinner with my friends… it was amazing and this place oozes hospitality.
Very lovely albergue on the Camino Norte! a little off the path if you plan to do Castro Urdiales to Laredo the next morning. maybe would need to stay in liendo the next day. we went to Laredo, but a long day. however the albergue was so nice we were happy to have stayed there! the owner is so sweet and attentive and makes sure you have all you need. free laundry, dryer is 4 euro. she has food available for purchase if you don’t want to eat at the restaurant across the street. breakfast in the morning was great!!
very good price-quality. We stayed in the apartment on the 1st and 2nd floor. Very spatious: 2 nicely decorated rooms, 2 bathrooms, large kitchen and terrace on 2nd floor; salon & dining room + 3rd toilet on the first floor. Big private parking space. Garden with BBQ and terrace. Friendly welcome by the hosts.
There is a restaurant and cafe nearby and also a supermarket close by. Castro-Urdiales is a nice coast town !
The apartment was perfect for our size family of 5. It was beautifully decorated, spacious, and located close to the main shops and port. It is a bit of a walk to the larger beach. There is a smaller beach that is closer. Our family agreed this was one of our favorite accommodations on our 10 day trip. We also absolutely loved Castro Urdiales and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.
Breakfast was delicious, the room was cute, loved the vibe of the hotel, the staff so nice. It's located on the edge of Castro-Urdiales - so it's a bit far from the center of town, but we found that to be perfect (we are big walkers). The cliffs overlooking the sea nearby are spectacular and there were barely any people around.
I was on an 18 day trip with my kids (14 & 19) around Spain & Portugal. We arrived in Castro-Urdiales for the first day of Fiesta. The location was great for walking around the city & close to the Fiesta activities. Room & bathroom was clean and good for the one night we stayed.
Amazing location! Basically right on the Camino in the heart of Castro-Urdiales. Lovely staff, very helpful. Many restaurants and shops in the area. Good value, nicely decorated. It is noisy at night, however once we closed our window, problem solved!
We have returned several times to this hotel whilst either boarding or disembarking the ferry at Santander. It's comfortable, clean with excellent staff and an incredible breakfast buffet.
Breakfast was lovely and the hotel manager was outstanding. Welcoming, kind, very informative and most of all she had a very cheerful nature. Would not hesitate to stay again
The hotel is excellently situated in the centre of town. It is clean and comfortable. There are no meal options available but there are shops, cafes and restaurants close by.
The location was awesome. The hotel is very clean and the staff was great. It’s kind of noisy but that goes along with the vacation. We had a great visit!
Great location and spacious room. We were able to park in a nearby car park but it would have been better to reserve at the same car park via the hotel.
charming hotel. great location. comfy cozy room. nice bedding. nice writing table and comfortable chairs. I could see and hear the ocean from my window.
